Putney's oldest pub, and it's best kept secret

The Brick: the traditional pub, reborn

Originally founded as The Waterman's Arms in 1826 to serve the local ship builders of Putney, our traditional London local has been serving the residents of Putney for almost 200 years.

Saved from closure and reborn in 2020 by landlord Chris Walsh, The Bricklayers Arms is a cosy and traditional pub that has quickly become a focal point of the local community, and a beacon for cask and craft beer lovers across London.

Having grown up in his parents pubs in North London, Landlord Chris has a life long love and passion for pubs. After a varied career in hospitality and events, when his local, The Bricklayers Arms was closing due to the impact of the pandemic, Chris new he had to save yet another independent pub from closure.

After moving into what was effectively a construction site, Chris and his family worked tirelessly to restore the pub to its former glory. During the height of the pandemic, operating from a table outside the front of the pub, Chris began serving the locals of Putney. After a small round of crowdfunding from the local community, The Bricklayer’s Arms finally reopened in May of 2021 and has grown into a true hub of its community.

From the carefully selected music to our thoughtfully curated drinks menu, our exceptional team is dedicated to providing a unique and memorable experience for all our guests. Whether you're out with friends or simply looking to quench your thirst, we invite you to spend your evening with us at The Brick.

We believe that pubs are at the heart of British culture, they are a space for friends, families, and communities to come together.

In the UK, over 500 pubs are closing every year, with many of the ones that remain being owned by a small number of large companies that have forgotten what pubs are meant to be about - Great beer, great service, and bringing people together.

We are independently owned, family operated, and pride ourselves on putting our customers at the heart of our business. From working with local suppliers, to hosting community events, our locals are what fuels our passion.
